Babás do Tempo (Nannies of Time) is part of the Abolitionists series and expands the artist’s reflection on labor, memory, and ancestry by bringing to the forefront experiences of care historically performed by Black women. The work challenges the notion of time by highlighting lives devoted to caring for, educating, and accompanying the growth of others, while their own desires, affections, and personal trajectories often remain invisible. By bringing care and labor into dialogue, Miagui prompts reflection on the persistence of social structures inherited from the period of slavery and on who, historically, has had ownership of their own time. In Babás do Tempo, care also becomes memory: an everyday gesture shaped by relationships of affection, inequality, resistance, and ancestry.
