Dar ao couro nome de pele (2026) uses as its support hide-skins taken from instruments used in religious practices of African origin, which arrive at the work after completing their own cycles of use, so that production is organized in the time of matter rather than in a linear way. On these surfaces already traversed by other existences, Laura does not reinscribe but overlays a new layer of language, in a gesture of palimpsest in which the earlier text persists beneath the embroidered word. The encruza stitch, a gesture inherited from the women of her lineage, also guides the choice of embroidered words: polysemy, in which the reader chooses the direction to follow. The skin ceases to be a limit and becomes contour, edge, the support of language.
