Déjalo ir #6 is part of a series that explores cimarrón antifuturism as an exercise in visual restructuring: history is understood not as a straight line, but as a spiral in which past, present, and future converge within the same symbolic plane. The work emerges from an interest in rituals of despojo within the 21 Divisiones, understood here as a metaphor for transformation, protection, and cultural reaffirmation. This painting pays tribute to Jomar Santana, a young bomba dancer who represents a new generation that embraces the body as territory, memory, and a living archive of the batey. The burning sugarcane field serves as a historical and spiritual space of the Afro-Caribbean sugar economy: it burns, but it also renews. From this landscape emerges the neon vejigante, a guardian spirit embodying ancestral protection translated into a contemporary language. The work celebrates the continuity of bomba as a communal act of resistance and the creation of a future on its own terms.
