Inspired by the Yoruba myth of the creation of heads, in which Àjàlá models each one in clay, endowing them with the singular deviations, flaws, and imperfections that shape the human journey, the installation Exercício Àjàlá (2026) brings together 21 acrylic paintings on Ankara fabric. This mythological grounding is directly reflected in the works, in which the faces are depicted as under constant construction and full of fissures, absences, and historical density, never reaching a fully finished state. The arrangement of the portraits on the wall, interspersed with gaps, joins the unfinished images to create zones of interruption, silence, and suspension that place under tension the conceptual relationships between image, remembrance/erasure, identity, and diaspora.
