Herança de preto era orixá

Herança (2023) da série Prata da Casa é uma instalação criada a partir da manipulação da única fotografia existente de minha avó. Esta obra têxtil em camadas entrelaça Espiritual, Indígena e Africano — elementos que, conectados, representam essa ancestralidade. Bordados apenas na camada africana, os elementos de Iemanjá — revelados pelo sagrado — resgatam segredos escondidos por muitos anos videnciando e honrando nossa identidade. Este trabalho aborda segredos de família, herança espiritual, rememorando linhagens apagadas, contando a história por nossa própria narrativa e o legado afro-brasileiro silenciado pela violência colonial.

A Black Person’s Inheritance Was an Orixá

Herança (2023), from the Prata da Casa series, is an installation created through the manipulation of the only existing photograph of my grandmother. This layered textile work interweaves Spiritual, Indigenous, and African elements, which together embody this ancestral heritage. Embroidered exclusively onto the African layer, the symbols of Yemanjá—revealed through the sacred—recover secrets hidden for many years, bringing to light and honoring our identity. The work addresses family secrets and spiritual inheritance, recalling erased lineages while reclaiming the right to tell our own history through our own narrative. It also honors the Afro-Brazilian legacy silenced by colonial violence.
