Djela Lou Zaouli – Zaouli Mask (2024) is an acrylic painting that draws on the mask and costume of the Zaouli, a traditional dance of the Guro people of Côte d'Ivoire, to explore the relationships between body, movement, color and materiality. The red that spreads across the composition, crossed by long brushstrokes, contrasts with the graphic patterns and shapes of the mask, creating an intense and dynamic surface. The mask appears as an element of transformation, mediating the relationship between the body, performance and cultural memory. The work engages with the Texture axis of the Five Skins, understanding the pictorial surface as a skin built from color, gesture and matter, capable of inscribing memory, identity and movement.
