O PRIMEIRO É CARREGAL, do Matheus de Souza, ano 2023. Pintura em tinta acrílica e óleo, medindo 80 centímetros de altura por 50 centímetros de largura, em formato vertical de laterais estreitas. O conteúdo é figurativo, um retrato de perfil de um sujeito masculino com a face oculta por sua mão esquerda, com anel de ouro no dedo indicador. Seu cabelo são dreadlocks de tamanho pequeno. Veste um uniforme vermelho com listras verticais brancas. O fundo abstrato se divide em dois campos de cor, verde em baixo e cinza em cima. A superfície tem pinceladas marcadas de textura suave.
THE FIRST IS CARREGAL (2023) is a mixed-media painting that builds a fabulation from photographs of amateur players and references to Black struggles in football. In the portraits, the figure wears the jersey of Carregal, considered the first Black player in Brazilian football, while the concealed face shifts attention to the clothing and the hair. The work raises questions of identity, memory and representation.
