Soy monte proposes a threshold of return to the ecological and spiritual memory that lives in our bodies. The installation explores the relationship between body and territory, inviting us to cross a symbolic portal where the monte ceases to be an external landscape and becomes once again a way of being, feeling, and remembering. In the Caribbean, the monte has been a refuge for maroon communities, a space of resistance, freedom, and the preservation of ancestral knowledge. Walking among the cyanotypes, the red earth, the dry leaves, the vines, and the performance projection, the viewer activates a sensory experience that reconnects them with this deep relationship between territory, body, and memory. The work suggests that returning to the monte is also a way of recovering an identity fragmented by coloniality and the exploitation of nature, reminding us that we are not separate from the forest: we are monte.
